Description:
This is an Extremely Rare Date 1777 Silver/Copper Alloy Contemporary Counterfeit Farthing. 20.96 mm. 27.8 grains! Very Light. CRUDE. Silver/Copper Alloy Mix. Ex. William Anton. Analysis performed by a Amatek Spectro Midex ED-XRF Analyzer. See my company website at www.edax.com. ED-XRF results is an intra-atomic phenomenon where, under incident X-Rays, inner shell electrons are ejected. The vacant electron state is then filled by an electron from an outer shell with the emission of X-Rays that have energies specific for the electron energy levels that are indicative of the nature of the metallic elements being sought after - as in this specimen. XRF Analysis yielded: Copper (75.0%), Silver (23.7%), Zinc (1.0%), Nickel (0.5%), Tin (0.2%). An unusual silver/copper alloy mix. Silvering seen on the surface. An exceptional rare farthing both as a date and its copper/silver alloy make-up.
