Description:
1929 USA Richard E. Byrd Conquest of the Poles Medal by Julio Hilenyi strunk by Whitehead-Hoag. Silver plated: 82.5MM./217 gm. Obv: Shows a Ford Tri-Motor plane with skis and an eagle perched atop as it flies through a glocial region. Signed at lower right: KILENYI. Rev: Depicts a bust of Byrd facing left wearing a leather avaitor helmet and goggles coming out of a bank of clouds. 5-line inscription below. COMMEMORATING THE CONQUEST OF THE POLES/BY REAR ADMIRAL RICHARD E BYRD/AND HIS ASSOCIATES/PRESENTED BY/THE AERONAUTICAL CHANBER OF COMMERCE OF AMERICA. Two globes below show the north and soyth Polar Regions with the winged insignia of the ACCA at bottom center with dates MAY 9, 1926 AND November 29, 1929.
