1893 Denmark Cristoforo Colombo (1451-1506) Esposizione Universale in Chicago Medal strunk by V.Christesen in Copenhagen, engraved by F. Schmahlfeld after N. Fristrup. Plated Bronze: 65MM/88.8 gms.
Obv: Angelic female with a star above her head, pointing the way to the great sailor, with appropriate rim inscription and Oct.12,1492, the date he is said to have landed in the Caribbean island of Guanahani (which he called San Salvador). The designrefers to the story that Columbus saw blinking light at the horizon on the evening of Oct. 11. Rev: Legend in Italian "In memory of the illustrious navigator"
