Description:
1790 French Revolution for the Confederation of the French Medal by Gatteaux. Gilt Bronze: 33MM. Obv: Freedom is surmounted by a cap flag, on which there are two clasped hands as a sign of union also supports the book of the Constitution placed on an alter with inscribe 'A LA PATRIE'. France, crowned with lilies planted coat and holding a beam laid hands on the book to swear to uphold the Constitution. Public Felicity, holding cornucopia and caduceus, sits at the foot of the alter and reflects the joy he felt at such a beautiful moment. Truth hovers in the air, dispets the darkness of error and directs the light to the book of Constitution. Abov, a portion of the zodiac, Leo in which the sun during the month of July. Federated around the alter and the Military Academy on left, inscribed 'A PARIS LE 14 JUILLET, 1790', signed GATTEAUX (for Nicolas-Marie Gatteaux, 1751-1832). Rev: Inscribed 'CONFEDERATION DES FRANCOIS' within a circular wreath of Oak and Laurel.
