Description:
1718 UK Spanish Fleet Destroyed off Cape Passoro Medal by John Croker. Silver Gilt 45MM. Obv: Portrait of the Hanovenrian king in periwig and armour to right. Legend GEORGIVS.D.G.MAG.BR.FR.ET.HIB.REX.F.D. Sign .I.G. Rev: Rostral column topped by the king as Neptune, with captured naval attachments and trophies piled at its base. Legend SOCIORVM PROTECTOR. Exergue: (A fleet of 21 sails under the command of Admiral George Bying (1663-1733) destroyed much of a larger Spanish Fleet and captured Admiral Castañeta. He was one of the few commanders in navval and military history never to fail in any task he was charged with or undertook.)
