Description:
1776-1976 USA Libertas Americana Ben Franklin Design Medal. Silver: 77MM./238.2 gms. Obv: Head of Libertas Americana facing left, set against a liberty cap on pole. Rev: Minerva holding a shield with the fleur-delis of France. The British lion stands with his forepaws on the shield with his tail tucked between his legs as a sign of representing the defeat. A depiction of the infant Hercules is at Minerva's feet strangling two snakes representing the defeats of General "Gentleman Johnny" Burgoyne and General George Cornwallis. The Latin pharse NON SINE DIIS ANIMOSUS INFANS ARCS over the scene translates roughly means the infants is not bold without divine aid. Edge engraved Copy of Design By Benjamin Franklin.
