Description:
A stater of Sinope, perhaps struck by the philospher Diogenes when he was the town moneyer. The coin has a test cut and the specific gravity shows it to be only 90% silver, both of which support the story that he fled from Sinope in the wake of a scandal in his administration of the coinage.
