Mexico's familiar gold bullion coin, the 50 pesos, was one of the most popular gold bullion coins before the arrival of the South African Krugerrand. It still remains a popular and attractive large gold bullion coin. Most of the 1947 dated coins are official restrikes, the earlier dates are believed to have been struck in the year of their date.
