Description:
1878 VALLEY FORGE CENTENNIAL (HK-137, Bronze). Plain edge. 527 grains; 40.8 millimeters. Dies prepared by William Barber. Attractive with glossy dark brown surfaces. These medals were ordered by Mint Director Henry R. Lindermann at the request of the Valley Forge Centennial Committee. A single gold example was produced along with a small quantity of silver medals. In June 1878, 400 bronze medals were produced with limited quantities afterward.
