The circulation issue is bronze (left), which is smaller and light (26mm, 5.02g) compare to Essai copper-nickel coin (right, 28mm, 7.80g). The edge of circulation coin is plain whereas the Essai coin with incused legend 'ESSAI' on edge. The obverse and reverse legend of Essai is high relief and larger than circulation coin.
