Obv: Portrait of John Flexman (1755-1826) to left. Legend FLAXMAN. Signed HENRY WEIGALL. Rev: Shows Flaxman's Mercury and Pandora. Pandora was the image of a perfect, beautiful women. It is belived that the Zeus appointed Hephaestus to create her. She was formed from earth and water and arose naked. Pandora was flown to earth by Mercury. Only 30 medal was awarded in silver. The medal intended to issue 1847 but due several delays was issued 1854 Edge inscription "ART-UNION OF LONDON 1854"
