An interesting Western Han (207BC-25AD) askew large character 'Ban Liang' (probably 'Ba Zhu Ban Liang' or 800 millet seeds Half Tael series, but the weight has been reduced from 5.3g to 3.1g, should worth 600 millet seeds, maybe it's later debased type). 3.1g, Bronze, 24.74mm. From ancient description, this is called 'Zui Ban Liang' (Drunk half tael) because the mint worker who get drunk and can't cast the coin appropriately, thus both characters become askew Ban Liang. Scarce. |
